Caring For Your Jewellery
How to care for your jewellery
Daily wear and tear can affect the integrity of jewellery settings and dull the brilliance of gemstones and precious metals. We recommend bringing in your jewellery at least once a year for cleaning, polishing, checking and potential re-setting. Our expert jewellers will ensure your jewellery is secure and looks sparkling new.
Email us at info@gracediamonds.ie to organise a low-cost check-up for your piece. Any repairs or work that might be required are priced separately.
Maintaining your Jewellery on a Day-to-Day Basis
Your jewellery deserves the very best care and attention. Whether you wear your jewellery every day or only on special occasions here are some tips for you to preserve your jewellery in between check-ups:
- Always remove jewellery when undertaking physical activity like heavy housework, gardening or any manual labour. Precious metal becomes worn down over time and can bend when under pressure compromising settings.
- Remove jewellery when washing your hands or face and especially when using perfume, hairspray, or other beauty products.
- Keep jewellery away from household cleaning agents like chloring and detergents.
- Clean your jewellery regularly.
- If your jewellery contains pearls, turquoise or emeralds or a large cluster of precious stones rather entrust cleaning to qualified consultant.
- If you wish to carry out cleaning yourself you can softly scrub the jewellery with a soft small toothbrush in lukewarm soapy water, rinse it in lukewarm water and wipe it with a soft cloth.
- Be careful of sonic jewellery cleaners. They use high frequency to shake dirt and dust loose and this motion can also loosen stones.
A Few Long Term Precautionary Measures
Always check the following before putting on your jewellery:
- That the clasp is not loose.
- The stones are firmly set and not rattling
- If you have any doubt, bring your jewellery in to be checked.
Storing your Jewellery
- Jewellery can scratch other pieces of jewellery when stored together. We recommend you store all pieces individually.
- All necklace and bracelet chains should be clasped and laid flat to avoid knots forming.
- We recommend you insure your Grace Diamonds jewellery immediately after delivery. We can send you a valuation certificate if required.
